I ntroduction This interview report is the result of a one-hour face-to-face interview over Skype with Mr. Erik Junginger (henceforth Mr. J), the chief executive of a medium-sized sports and rubber shoe manufacturing firm. The idea to conduct the interview online was the interviewee’s own preference, which the interviewer agreed to. Mr J’s company, EBJ Footwear, Ltd., makes shoes on outsourced orders by larger brand-name shoe manufacturers who regularly outsource some of their less specialized product lines. There are approximately 1,000 employees, 80 per cent of whom are in the various stages of the manufacturing process, and the rest in the administrative, human resources, and marketing functions. The interview undertaken in this assignment intends to draw parallels between the story of the executive being interviewed (i.e., Mr. J), and the central themes discussed during the course, specifically from the material in Landing in the Executive Chair and HBR’s 10 M ust Reads on Leadership. The aim of the interview is to find if the case validates the central themes chosen, or if the case provides a new perspective on the same themes. The topics chosen were the self-perception as well as perception of the work force, of the executive’s leadership style, F2 Leadership, and luck in leadership (topics from Landing in the Executive Chair), and Level 5 Leadership, Crucibles of Leadership, and Incomplete Leadership (topics from HBR’s 10 Must Reads on Leadership). Self-Perception of Leadership Style When asked to describe his management style, Mr. J paused for a moment and after some introspection, replied that he felt his management style was somewhere in between the democratic and autocratic styles. On the other hand, the movie portrays her as being the emotional parent, who shares in the concerns for her children and those of the Jews in the concentration camps. This is seen with the sympathy she shows towards the Jews in the concentration camps and conditions, and the plight that they have to face. This is as opposed to her role in the book where the concern lies only in children and not the Jews. For this reason, the film differs from the book in that the film draws the emotion and reaction of the audience, in relation to the ethics of that which the Germans do to the Jews in the concentration camps. These appeals to the audience by making it ap pear as a disgusting deed and the level of wrongdoing questioning the moral and social thinking of the Germans. The other difference featured between the books and the film is in the details behind the facts found in the book and those found in the film. In relation to this, the book portrays the age of the two children, Shmuel and Bruno, as being aged nine years, while, the film differs. The film labels the two youngsters as being at the eight years, which is a difference of one year, which is uncalled for or whose role cannot be perceived to influence the two entities. The only difference might only be in the portrayal may be in the concept of naivety and innocence, which is more pronounced in the film than the book. Even the large colleges were taking part in promoting better relationships in the classrooms and campuses. However, the relationships must also extend to the communities outside of the schools. Helping the communities in ways which are acceptable to the surrounding areas will create a positive image for the schools. Activities such as lending help with work tasks, aiding the elderly, homeless or disabled, and joining organizations which also pre-form many community helping events are all good ideas to improve the neighborhoods. A positive environment for learning is also created with culture, and creates a passion that makes individuals want to share their knowledge with friends and family. When this passion is created it can be released in many healthy ways such as simple
